At the end of our annual End of Year Celebration, which took place in the Auditorium of the Herongate Club on Thursday 16th July, we said goodbye to three of our pupils, Isaiah, Jamie and Trinity, who are now moving on to continue their education at college.

To round off our last full week of the Summer Term, Oaklands pupils enjoyed a day of fun sports activities, both at school and at the Herongate Club.

What a lovely week we have had, especially after the very hot end to last week. Everyone returned feeling refreshed, happy, and ready to learn.

On Tuesday 16th June a team of pupils from Beech, Cedar, Maple and Oak classes represented Oaklands School by taking part in a special Inclusive Sports Festival which was organised by the Independent Schools Association (ISA) and Power2Inspire and held at Leighton Park School in Reading.

We were ecstatic to hear that Isaiah, in Ash class, had achieved 91% in his recent Open Awards Level 1 Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics!

Hazel Class have been exploring our local countryside. Their Class Teacher, Charlotte, told us all about their trip.

Today we’re wearing orange in support of PWS (Prader-Willi Syndrome) Awareness Day to help raise awareness of this rare and lifelong genetic condition.

Our pupils regularly attend horse riding lessons at Lambourn RDA which is located just down the road from our school at Manor Farm Stables, Chilton Foliat.

At the end of the Spring term, Pine class took part in Hungerford Tesco's Easter Colouring Competition and Harry won a prize for his beautifully coloured in Easter scene.

Monday 13th April was extra special! Not only was it our first day back at school after the Easter holiday, but we also got to try out our new play equipment in our playground!

Everyone at Oaklands School is incredibly proud of Eliza, Isiah, Josh and Leigha from Ash class, who have just attained their ASDAN Personal Development Programme Bronze level.

Friday 20th March was Red Nose Day, so our pupils and staff wore red to show their support for Comic Relief.

On Tuesday Hazel class had an amazing life skills lesson out in our local community. The sun was shining, listening ears were switched on, and everyone walked beautifully along the canal to feed the ducks.

Having had his gym induction with staff at the Herongate Club in Hungerford, which is just around the corner from school, Jamie is really enjoying his regular visits to the gym. He starts his workout by warming up, by using the treadmill, stair climber and/or elliptical machine, before moving onto using the weights for strength training. Jamie uses a combination of the fixed weight machines and free weights along with the bench press, which he has just been trained how to us

In PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education), Hazel have been thinking about how to keep their bodies healthy.

Our pupils regularly help out at Shalbourne Community Growers. They really enjoying getting stuck in to the many chores that need doing, such as planting, weeding and watering.

This year our pupils and staff had a brilliant time dressing up as characters from their favourite books for World Book Day.

The establishment of our School Council represents an important commitment to placing pupil voice at the heart of school improvement and everyday decision-making. It is fundamental to empowering our pupils to understand their rights, develop agency and build confidence in advocating for themselves and others.
