On Tuesday 16th June a team of pupils from Beech, Cedar and Oak classes represented Oaklands School by taking part in a special Inclusive Sports Festival which was organised by the Independent Schools Association (ISA) and Power2Inspire and held at Leighton Park School in Reading.
The team took part in a variety of games, against teams from other schools in the local area, including Touch Rugby, Boccia, Goalball, Kwik Cricket, Sitting Volleyball, Walking Football and Sitting Netball.
It was an amazing day with several other schools taking part in the event. It was hosted by John Willis, the Founder of Power2Inspire, who was born without fully formed arms and legs.
Power2Inspire was established following a triathlon relay in September 2013. John joined forces with able-bodied friends to compete in an able-bodied triathlon relay at Eton Dorney rowing lake.
Power2Inspire’s mission is to embed inclusive sport in communities by delivering events for everyone to enjoy. As John said at the start of the day, "Our vision is of a world where no one is left on the bench."
Our pupils had a fantastic time participating in all the different games and were incredible ambassadors for Oaklands School. We were tremendously proud of all of Team Oaklands.
