DoodleLearning

As a parent or carer of an Oaklands pupil you may hear your children, or our staff, talk about Doodle or Doodling from time to time. And you may be wondering what on earth they’re talking about!
Well, here’s the answer.
Doodle is a suite of four apps (DoodleMaths, DoodleTables, DoodleEnglish and DoodleSpelling) that cover the core areas of maths and English which create a unique work programme for your child precisely tailored to their needs and helping to boost their confidence and ability.
Doodle was created by teachers and is fully-aligned to the EYFS, KS1, KS2 and KS3 curriculum, boosting your child's knowledge and developing a solid foundation of understanding for them to build on in school.
The Doodle apps create a unique work programme for every child that fills gaps in their knowledge, targets tricky topics and consolidates what they already know, helping them get ahead in their learning.
By setting work at just the right level and rewarding effort over ability, Doodle lets every child work independently and experience ongoing success, reducing any anxieties they may have about maths and English.
Filled with fun exercises, interactive games and unique rewards, the four Doodle apps ensure that learning is always fresh and engaging, encouraging our pupils to practise ‘little and often’.
How does Doodle work?
When a pupil first uses Doodle, they complete a baseline assessment. This data is used to identify each child’s current level and pinpoint gaps in knowledge across the whole curriculum to create unique learning programmes.
Doodle uses a clever algorithm called Proxima™ to tailor content to each child, working within their Zone of Proximal Development*. Data collected from each child’s answers informs where a pupil needs to spend more time to build their understanding.
How we use Doodle in Oaklands School
At Oaklands we encourage all our pupils to use DoodleMaths and DoodleEnglish every day, if possible. Doodle tracks our pupils’ progress and provides our teaching staff with real-time data which can help inform their lesson planning and targeted interventions, enabling them to provide timely and personalised pupil support.
At the end of each week the top Doodling class (the one that has spent the most time using Doodle for learning) gets a Shout Out during our morning staff briefing!

* The Zone of Proximal Development, or ZPD, is a concept by psychologist Lev Vygotsky. It describes the sweet spot between what a learner can do alone and what they can achieve with help from someone more skilled (teacher, peer or parent). In this zone, guidance and collaboration help the learner stretch their abilities and build independence — it’s where real learning and growth happen.
