Hazel Class

Hazel Class follows a learning through play approach, tailored to meet the Early Learning Goals while implementing the EQUALS informal curriculum. Our learning environment is inclusive, practical, and designed to spark curiosity through sensory, hands-on, and tactile activities. Children are encouraged to explore, question, and develop independence in a fun and nurturing setting where every child is celebrated as a unique learner.
Our curriculum is enriched by high-quality literature that supports early language, communication, and understanding of the world. Each term, we explore stories that engage children’s imaginations and help develop comprehension and emotional literacy. These texts are used as springboards for discussion, storytelling, role play, and creative exploration.
We follow the White Rose Maths: Nursery Scheme, introducing mathematical thinking through interactive, playful learning.
Our PSHE curriculum supports children’s emotional intelligence, social skills, and self-awareness through themes including Families, Making Friends and People Who Help Us.
In Hazel Class, creative expression is woven into everything we do. Our art activities are inspired by the topic books we explore each term, providing meaningful opportunities for children to express their understanding in imaginative and personal ways.
We focus on expression, empowerment, and the development of fine motor skills, offering a variety of sensory-rich materials and techniques. Whether it’s painting a scene from The Gruffalo, creating jungle collages after Rumble in the Jungle, or building story maps for We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, children are encouraged to find their own voice and style.
