What We Do

PXL_20250923_123639727.jpg

Located in Hungerford, West Berkshire we are an independent special school for children aged 5 to 16.

All pupils have a Special Educational Need as their primary need, as well as sensory and nurturing needs.

Our whole curriculum is written to meet the aims of our pupils with SEN and we aim for each and every one of our pupils to achieve their potential.

Our job is a significant challenge but one that can be overcome and is successfully faced with enthusiasm and energy.

We believe that engaging with learning is the key to young people achieving success. We provide a creative, active and exciting curriculum that aims to inspire, stimulate and motivate all our young people.

We aim to help every young person to acquire life and social skills to gain a more independent and positive future.

Excellent Learning Facilities

Our learning environment has been specifically designed, with a range of classrooms, break out and sensory spaces for small groups and one-to-one teaching. The ground floor includes facilities and offices for meetings, school leaders and administrators. The first and second floors are designed for Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 3, with the third floor accommodating our Key Stage 4 (years 10 and 11) pupils. The school grounds are landscaped with secure outdoor play spaces for the pupils.

Learning Outside the Classroom

We regularly use our school minibus to access local outdoor activities, including horse riding and River School, and for trips to museums, wildlife parks, creative ventures and places of interest in the area, such as Beale Wildlife Park, STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway, Avebury and The Ugly Duckling Pottery.

School Visits

We like to welcome visitors into our school to bring our pupils' learning to life. Previously we've enjoyed visits from The Veterinary Hospital, ZooLab, Guide Dogs and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service

Our Community Partners

We're pleased to work in partnership with many organisations and businesses in the local area.

We use the facilities at The Herongate Club (a local, not-for-profit, charity which provides sport, leisure and learning facilities for the benefit of the whole community) which is just around the corner from our school on a daily basis. We use their auditorium, which has tiered seating for up to 150 people) for our PE lessons, staff training and for whole school presentations and celebrations.

In addition, the school links with other community based groups, projects and companies, such as Hungerford Town Football ClubHungerford RFCHungerford Leisure CentreHungerford LibraryShalbourne Community Growers, Jim the Bike GuyAction for the River Kennet (ARK), Enborne Equestrian Centre. and Lambourne RDA.

Horse Riding

Horse riding offers our students a sense of achievement, as well as an opportunity for enjoyment and to grow independence and confidence. Horse riding/interaction is widely recognised as not just a form of enrichment, but for its marked contribution to emotional and behavioural awareness and development, and also for support with physical and sensory awareness and skills.
