Bay Tree Class

Welcome to Bay Tree Class.
Bay Tree Class opened its doors in March 2026 and has continued to grow as part of the Oaklands family. We are a nurturing, communication-focused class where every child is valued for who they are and supported to develop their own individual strengths, interests and skills.
Our dedicated team is led by Laura Brown (Class Lead), supported by Teaching Assistants Danielle Thompson and Ella Smith. Together, we work closely to create a warm, positive and supportive learning environment where pupils feel safe, understood and ready to learn.
In Bay Tree, we have a strong focus on communication and language, independence and emotional well-being. We recognise that every child learns differently, and we adapt our teaching and environment to ensure that pupils can access learning in ways that work best for them.
We use a range of approaches and strategies throughout the school day, including visual supports, Makaton, Total Communication, clear routines and structured work systems. We also use the TEACCH approach to help pupils understand what is expected of them, develop independence and build confidence in their learning.
Our classroom is carefully organised to provide a calm, structured and purposeful learning environment. We provide opportunities for pupils to learn through play, sensory exploration and practical experiences, while developing important skills such as communication, social interaction, emotional regulation and independence.
Our curriculum is based on the Foundation Stage Early Learning Goals and is carefully adapted to meet the individual needs and developmental stages of our pupils. Learning opportunities are planned around each child’s strengths, interests and next steps, allowing pupils to learn at their own pace and celebrate their achievements along the way.
Reading, stories, songs and rhymes are an important part of life in Bay Tree. We explore a wide range of books throughout the year, linking stories to our topics, pupils’ interests and everyday experiences. These opportunities help us develop communication, listening, attention and understanding, while encouraging a love of books and shared stories.
Above all, Bay Tree is a place where every achievement matters. We celebrate the progress our pupils make, no matter how big or small, and work together to give every child the confidence, skills and experiences they need to continue to thrive.
