Today (Tuesday 13th October) Hazel class had a fantastic time at Swings & Smiles, a warm and inclusive space offering play sessions, respite care for families, sibling support and family‑focused activities.

Two of our classes, Bay Tree and Fir Tree, got their first taste of playing tennis last Friday, 2nd October, with the help of local Tennis Coach, James.

Beech class had a wonderful time at the Autumn Harvest Celebration Day, on Thursday 1st October at Newbury Showground, which was organised by the Newbury and District Agricultural Society (NADAS).

World Teachers’ Day is held annually on 5th October to celebrate all teachers around the globe.

National Poetry Day is celebrated on the first Thursday of October every year. This year, National Poetry Day takes place today (Thursday 1 October 2026). This year's theme is wonder. Aiming to inspire a love of poetry, this annual event provides a fantastic opportunity to explore and celebrate poetry. From engaging with familiar poems we love, to the creative fulfilment of crafting new works. This year Beech and Maple classes participated in National Poetry Day by joining in

We're holding a coffee morning on Thursday 15th October at the Herongate Club in Hungerford from 9.15am - 11am so you can meet our new Assistant Headteacher/SENCo and our Therapy Team.

We're very proud to be celebrating National Teaching Assistants' Day which is taking place today (Friday 25th September).

During the summer of 2026 we expanded our school from one to two campus buildings – our existing campus (Tealgate) and a new campus (Herongate) which is just across the road from Tealgate, opposite the Herongate Club.

This year's National Fitness Day took place on Wednesday 16th September, and Wednesday is the day of the week that Hazel class have their weekly PE session, lead by our PE Lead, Rhys Tyler.

Our next Open Day has been announced for Saturday 3rd October and places are open to book now.

On 20th August we learned that Isaiah, formerly of Ash Class, achieved a Grade 5 in his Physics GCSE. This is Oaklands School's first ever GCSE result.

At the end of our annual End of Year Celebration, which took place in the Auditorium of the Herongate Club on Thursday 16th July, we said goodbye to three of our pupils, Isaiah, Jamie and Trinity, who are now moving on to continue their education at college.

To round off our last full week of the Summer Term, Oaklands pupils enjoyed a day of fun sports activities, both at school and at the Herongate Club.

On Wednesday 15th July Maple class brought their learning to life when they enjoyed a fantastic trip to Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens.

Six intrepid pupils from Beech class took a trip to the River Kennet at The Wilderness, Kintbury for ARK (Action for the River Kennet) River School last week.

Beech class finally got to visit Winchester Science Centre last week, after their original trip was cancelled due to the extreme heat a couple of weeks ago.

Recently Cedar and Oak classes joined together to learn about the Solar System and make paper mache models of the planets.

What a lovely week we have had, especially after the very hot end to last week. Everyone returned feeling refreshed, happy, and ready to learn.
