Elm class are currently reading 'Bob - No Ordinary Cat' by James Bowen.
'We are all given second chances every day of our lives, but we don't usually take them. Then I met Bob.'
James Bowen was a homeless musician, busking on the streets of London to survive. But the moment he met an injured stray cat with ginger fur and big green eyes, his life began to change. It explores many themes around the relationship between one man and his cat, and the hardships of drug abuse and living on the streets.
Last week Elm class researched different types of poetry and wrote their own poems based on concepts in the book they have read about so far. We particularly liked this one written by Lola, which she also beautifully illustrated.
Never settled as a child.
Often moved house.
Over the years had no friends.
Rebelled against parents.
In a few months got addicted to heroin.
Now moved back to UK.
And tried to get a job.
Realised he couldn't get a job.
Yet I was homeless and went to busking
Cautiously I tried to stop drugs.
And when I gave up a cat called Bob came
To help me take care of myself.
