Pine Class

Welcome to Pine Class – a nurturing, inclusive and thoughtfully adapted classroom designed to meet the needs of the wonderful children in our class. Our curriculum is based around the Foundation Stage Early Learning Goals and we carefully plan and tailor our curriculum around each child's needs and interests so that they can achieve and thrive in Pine Class.
Pine Class is led by Kim Chivers, with the support of the fantastic teaching assistants Tash Self, Andrea Komora, Clare Cadle and Leigh Woolford. Together, we create a calm, structured, and engaging sensory space where every child in Pine Class can thrive socially, emotionally and academically.
In Pine Class our biggest focus is communication. We support each child by teaching the children new vocabulary, as well as corresponding picture symbols that go with them, which helps them find their voice – whether that’s through verbal language or using visual queues. We focus on learning through play, sensory and everyday real-life experiences and simple routines.
We explore a wide range of books throughout the year, with stories carefully chosen that link to our topic. As we adapt our reading choices to suit the needs and interests of the class, so our book list is always growing!
