This term has got off to an amazing start for the pupils of Pine Class as they have already welcomed Kieran, a Ranger from ZooLab, into class along with his collection of incredible creatures!
ZooLab was established in in 1997 and aims to educate audiences about animals, the natural world and how to protect the environment from climate change.
Kieran introduced a selection of animals to the pupils - some of who they were allowed to touch (including Charlie the Madagascar hissing cockroach and Irn-Bru the beautiful orange Corn snake) and while others (such as the Chilean rose tarantula, the Asian Forest Scorpion and the White's Tree Frog) had to stay safely in their special containers.
Kieran showed the class how the Asian Forest Scorpion glows with a vibrant blue-green colour by shining an ultraviolet (UV) torch onto it. The children also found out that Irn-Bru the Corn snake had been rescued by ZooLab after being abandoned in Scotland. His name was inspired by his vibrant colouring, which is similar to the colour of the popular Scottish soft drink!
Our pupils and staff had a brilliant time learning all about the animals, including Pine Class Teacher, Kim, and our Headteacher, Phil (who's not very keen on snakes!).
