Pine Class had an intrepid start to the week as they explored The Living Rainforest. No, it wasn't in the Amazon, but much closer to home in Hampstead Norreys, West Berkshire!
The centre is home to over 850 species of plants and animals, including rare and endangered species of global conservation value. During their visit our pupils and staff experienced the sights, sounds and smells of a lush tropical rainforest environment.
One inside the Amazonica Glasshouse our guide, Lucy, told us that both coffee and chocolate are made from the beans of plants that grow in the rainforest. She also showed us a wide variety of birds, fish, insects, mammals and amphibians who call the rainforest home, including Vietnamese giant stick insects, Cuvier’s dwarf caiman, Trinidad stream frogs, mudskippers, a green iguana (who was in fact red!), a Yellow-knobbed Curassow, tambaqui (a large freshwater fish), an Emerald Tree Boa and the adorable Pygmy Marmosets.
What a wonderful way to spend a Monday morning!
