Fir Tree Class

Welcome to Fir Tree Class - a warm, supportive and inclusive learning environment where every child is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. Our curriculum is based on the Foundation Stage Early Learning Goals and is thoughtfully planned to reflect the individual needs, abilities and interests of each child. Through personalised learning experiences and a nurturing approach, we aim to help every child develop, grow in confidence and flourish as a member of Fir Tree Class.
Fir Tree Class is taught by Megan Barlow, with the support of the fantastic teaching assistants Niamh, Nafis, Ellie-May, Rissa and Gill. Our shared aim is to provide a nurturing and engaging sensory environment where children in Fir Tree Class feel secure, supported and able to make progress in all areas of their development.
Communication is at the heart of our learning in Fir Tree Class. We encourage every child to develop their communication skills by introducing meaningful vocabulary alongside visual symbols to support their understanding and expression. We recognise that every child communicates differently, so we provide opportunities for children to express themselves using speech, visuals and other forms of communication. Learning is embedded throughout the day through play, sensory activities, everyday experiences and familiar routines, helping children to develop skills in meaningful and enjoyable ways.
Throughout the year, we enjoy sharing a variety of stories and books with the children, selecting texts that complement and enhance our current topics. Our reading choices are flexible and responsive to the children’s interests and individual needs, meaning we are continually discovering and adding new books to our collection.
