International Animals Visit Hazel Class

Hazel class welcomed some very unusual international visitors to class on the afternoon of Friday 16th January including a Corn snake, a Chilean rose tarantula, some Indian stick insects, an Asian Forest Scorpion, some Madagascar hissing cockroaches and a Giant African snail!

These creatures were brought into school by Kieran, a Ranger from ZooLab. Established in in 1997, ZooLab aims to educate audiences about animals, the natural world and how to protect the environment from climate change.

Before the class met each animal Kieran, showed them a picture of it so they were prepared for what they were going to see. Then the class were able to get up close to the animals and even stroke and hold some of them! Kieran also told the class lots of fascinating facts about each animal. For example, did you know that snakes smell using their tongue and scorpions glow in the dark!

Charlotte, Hazel Class Teacher, said, "Wow! What a fantastic afternoon we had! Hazel Class were absolutely outstanding, sitting beautifully and listening so carefully as Keiran taught us all about a variety of amazing animals, and then we even had the chance to look at them and touch them! Everyone was incredibly kind and respectful throughout the session. We were lucky enough to see cockroaches, stick insects, giant snails, scorpions, a tarantula, frogs, and corn snakes! I have never seen Hazel Class sit so well, for nearly an hour we were completely engaged, learning about new animals and exploring them through both touch and sight. Amazing job, Hazel Class!"

Hazel class were captivated during the visit and were extremely gentle when touching the animals. A big thank you goes to Kieran for an enthralling and fun afternoon and introducing the class to so many extraordinary animals.
