On Wednesday 16th July, we were really pleased to welcome a team from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue to school.
They spent the afternoon talking to our pupils and staff about the vital work they do in our local community and showing them some of the different equipment they use as part of their job. This included the hose reels, which are connected to the fire engine and are used for smaller fires or fires that do not require large volumes of water and cutters, which are used primarily for cutting people out of vehicles following a road traffic collision (RTC). They are extremely powerful with a cutting force of 95 tonnes, and can cut through metal like scissors cut through paper! Some of our pupils and staff even had the opportunity try on the firefighter's uniform.
The best bits of the visit, for our pupils, were getting to sit inside the fire engine and having a go at using the hose reel. What an exciting afternoon of learning outside the classroom!
