Ash Help with Harvest Time in Shalbourne

It was a glorious, autumnal day on Tuesday 23rd September when Ash class paid a visit to Shalbourne Community Growers.

The class were greeted by Polly and Wendy who introduced them to their two new additions to the group - Basil and Sprout the super cute kittens!

Our pupils then went into the poly tunnel, where they saw the variety of fruits and herbs growing inside including tomatoes, cucumbers, padron peppers, basil and chives. They also got to smell and taste some of the freshly picked produce.

Next they took a look at the composting bins and the wormery before getting to work harvesting the courgettes and different varieties of squash, which are put into veg boxes and sold to local residents.

It was a really fun and productive trip and everyone enjoyed helping out, while being outside in the beautiful countryside.
