National Poetry Day 2026

National Poetry Day is celebrated on the first Thursday of October every year.

This year, National Poetry Day takes place today (Thursday 1 October 2026). This year's theme is wonder.

Aiming to inspire a love of poetry, this annual event provides a fantastic opportunity to explore and celebrate poetry. From engaging with familiar poems we love, to the creative fulfilment of crafting new works.

This year Beech and Maple classes participated in National Poetry Day by joining in with a live write along poetry workshop which was organised by the Independent Schools Association (ISA).

The lesson was led by acclaimed children’s poet and National Poetry Day ambassador Simon Mole and our classes joined thousands of other children across the country to play some fun (and quite silly) games, and create their own poetic masterpieces!

Here are the poems which were written by the pupils in Beech class.
