We are pleased to announce that Oaklands School is celebrating a successful final OFSTED inspection which allows the school to formally register as an SEN (special educational needs) school.
With the registration now firmly under our belts, we are gearing up to welcome children to the school from 2nd October, with staff beginning their new roles from 25th September.
Oaklands School is a purpose built co-educational school for children aged 5 to 16 years with Special Education Needs in Hungerford, West Berkshire. The school will include one to one teaching, small class sizes, and therapeutic support, alongside a balanced curriculum with a range of extra-curricular activities. Oaklands provides a welcoming and friendly environment for pupils with individual learning profiles, including Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated communication, language, social, emotional, and mental health needs.
Chair of the Board, Dr Julie Smith, said: "The building is looking fantastic after extensive building and renovation works, which have been taking place in preparation for the arrival of our first pupils, are now complete. Together with our new Headteacher Megan Stratton, a teacher and leader in special education with more than 27 years experience, we are confident that we have created a setting where our pupils can thrive, achieve and be happy".
Oaklands School Headteacher, Megan Stratton, said: "Behind the scenes in preparation for opening, we have been working closely with the Local Authorities to provide places for children who require a specialist, personalised approach to education. Our brand new staff team, who between them possess decades of SEN teaching and support experience, are ready and excited to start their new roles and meet our new pupils at the beginning of October".
Councillor Heather Codling, portfolio holder for Children, Education and Young People’s Services at West Berkshire Council, said: “We are thrilled to see Oaklands passing the Ofsted inspection and becoming a registered SEN school. Children across West Berkshire will benefit from this new facility and the school have been working hard to ensure it is a welcoming and friendly school for all.”
